Researching the efficacy of ONPAR science assessments in classrooms
This project has examined the use of the ONPAR assessment system and evaluated its effectiveness in middle school science classrooms.
The ONPAR team is nearing the completion of an Education, Innovation, and Research (EIR) early-phase grant. Two cohorts of teachers (n=31) received training and used ONPAR in their classrooms during a school year for formative assessment purposes. A project-developed science measure was administered to students participating in the intervention to determine whether consistent use of ONPAR improved student science achievement.
The EIR program is designed to generate and validate solutions to persistent educational challenges and to support the expansion of effective solutions to serve substantially larger numbers of students. The EIR is established under section 4611 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
